The Light Forest
Oxford Street Christmas Illuminations Competition 2018
The notion of a forest conjures up inner memories of enchanted and immersive environments. A forest engages us with all of our senses at the same time. Light is filtered through the canopies, movement is choreographed and sound emerges from different directions. The forest, made up of varying forms of a simple unit (tree), appears to change as we move through it and becomes sensory delight.
As darkness falls the trees will slowly begin to wake up in unison. The Light Forest begins to glow and omit varying patterns of coloured light. The trees appear to communicate with each other. As one tree changes from white light to pink to orange the adjacent tress slowly follow. Some trees however appear to be rebels either remaining constant or changing much faster. The slow breathing of the forest is punctuated by little flurries of activity
